Homemade Basil Pasta or Pasta Basilico is one of our family’s comfort food. This is one of the dishes that my husband and I tried to recreate from one of our favorite restaurants in Shanghai. Eating this just brings a lot of fond memories.

Since we can’t get enough from store-bought basil as it tends to be costly, my husband plants our own basil in the garden and in his aquaponics system. We love Pasta Basilico because of its simple earthy taste yet, elegant name. It’s preparation is easy and not too complicated. With only seven ingredients, you’re sure to enjoy this dish in less than half an hour. Great for moms (and dads) who are busy and always on the go.

Basil Pasta Ingredients

Pasta Basilico Cooking Directions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package cooking instruction. Drain, rinse with cold water, then set aside.
  2. Put together garlic, olive oil, fresh basil, salt and pepper in a blender. I use this Ninja Blender.
  3. Heat the pan then add the blended basil mixture just before the oil starts to sizzle.
  4. Throw in spinach (can be substituted by green beans or asparagus) and cook until slightly wilted.
  5. Turn off the heat and mix in your pasta.
  6. Sprinkle more salt and pepper according to your liking.
  7. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese and garlic bread. (for simple garlic bread, I use any leftover bread, slather with butter and sprinkle with fresh crushed garlic or garlic powder)
